History of the Foundation

The North Eastern Ontario Children’s Foundation was originally established in 1979 as the Porcupine and District Children’s Foundation with a mandate to provide financial support to children and youth involved in services at the former Porcupine and District Children’s Aid Society (PDCAS). In 2000, the Children’s Foundation’s scope expanded when the former CAS amalgamated with South Cochrane Child & Youth Services to form Child & Family Services of Timmins and District (CFSTD).

In 2012, the Foundation once again evolved and expanded as CFSTD amalgamated with its sister agencies in the north (Services familiaux Jeanne Sauvé Family Services) and the south (Timiskaming Child and Family Services) to form North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services (NEOFACS).

Through the amalgamation, NEOFACS became the owner of Camp Cadanac, located on the shores of beautiful Rémi Lake in Moonbeam, Ontario. In 2018, the Children’s Foundation supported the growth and diversification of the Camp by initiating the process of transferring the assets of Camp Canadac to neighbouring Camp Ongrandi. The property will continue to operate as a non-profit summer camp providing outdoor recreation experiences for children and youth across the Districts of Cochrane and Timiskaming.

Serving a catchment area of more than 127,000 square kilometers in North Eastern Ontario, the Children’s Foundation is committed to improving the lives of children and youth by supporting them in experiences that would otherwise be unattainable.

Our Successes

Prior to 2008, the Children’s Foundation relied solely on bequeaths and in memoriam donations. In 2008 and 2009 we launched our active fundraising campaign with three concerts featuring The Canadian Tenors. These concerts were resounding successes, with over $60,000 raised that has been used to provide support to over 40 children each year since 2008.

On February 16, 2013, we hosted a concert featuring renowned tenor, Fernando Varela. This gala evening of musical entertainment further supported the children and youth from our communities.
